Who we Are
Lynn Grows is a partnership between The Food Project (TFP), the Lynn Food and Fitness Alliance (LFFA), Lynn residents, and other stakeholders. We aim to build a food system that works for everyone in the city of Lynn. Our steering committee is comprised of around 25 people who live, work, and eat in Lynn. In addition, we partner with community organizations, schools, local businesses, and other stakeholders in our efforts to build a food system that works for everyone. Here is some information of the history of how Lynn Grows came to be!
2010 - TFP began doing community outreach in Lynn through a food justice workshop series, created and facilitated by youth interns, that focused first on engaging youth in the community.
2015 - Realizing the need to reach more people in the community, TFP began partnering with the LFFA, a Mass in Motion initiative, to address ways of improving the local food system. This partnership was called Lynn Grows and focused on engaging Lynn residents to build positive change.
2016 - TFP started a 2-part workshop series for Lynn residents about food justice and inequities in the food system. Residents who participated in both parts of this series were invited to sit on a steering committee for Lynn Grows.
2017 - In the fall, the Lynn Grows Steering Committee drafted a Vision and list of 6 Priorities: school food, food education, access, affordability, gardens, and local food business.
2018 - From the end of 2017 through April of 2018, Lynn Grows steering committee members, along with TFP and LFFA staff, led listening sessions with organizations and community groups throughout the city to present the work of Lynn Grows and gather feedback from residents about what they would like to see changed in the Lynn food system. In October 2018, we launched our one-year goals around our 6 priorities to build a food system that works for everyone in the city.
PRESENT - We are currently working on completing our one-year goals to build a better food system in Lynn! You can read more about our progress and goals at lynngrows.org/oneyear-goals-and-timelines
A 'food system' is the entire seed to fork process - that includes all components of growing and producing food to getting it into a meal on your plate
Special thanks to the steering committee members who helped Lynn Grows get this far!
